Quick start

New here? This page is the whole tool. Ten minutes, and you will have seen the shape of it.

What Cartwright is for

It answers two questions a station has to get right every day:

  • What goes on the air, and did it? That is Traffic.
  • Who are we selling to, and who is listening? That is Sales and Audience.

They meet at one point only. A company is somebody you are talking to. An advertiser is somebody already buying. Only advertisers reach the log, so a half-entered prospect can never schedule a spot.

The sidebar, top to bottom

Today

  • Dashboard is the morning glance: today's log, anything behind, anything broken.
  • Tasks, Show Prep and Liners are the day's work.

Sell

  • Leads, Companies, Contacts, Pipeline and Contests.
  • This replaces a separate CRM, so nobody has to keep two systems saying the same thing.

Traffic

SectionWhat it is
AdvertisersWho is buying.
OrdersThe contracts. Dates, spots, dayparts, money.
Spot LibraryThe audio and the live-read copy.
Daily LogBuild the day, approve it, send it to your automation system.

Revenue

  • Pacing shows whether each campaign is delivering what was sold.
  • Sales Inbox, Billing and Reports cover getting paid.

Audience

  • Studio Inbox is what listeners said.
  • Listeners is who they are, birthdays included, for the morning show.

Station

  • Station setup holds the set-once things, including your clocks and rate card.
  • People, Settings, Trash and this Help.

The one flow that matters

Everything else supports this:

Order → Spot → Stage → Generate → Approve → Send → Verify

1. Somebody buys spots. 2. You add the audio or the copy. 3. You stage the audio where the automation can see it. 4. You generate the day's log. 5. You approve it. 6. You send it. 7. You check the automation actually took it.

Do that once, end to end, with one spot. It is the fastest way to learn the tool, and if a step stops, that step tells you why. The walkthrough is in Getting a spot on air.

Five things that will save you an hour

Every number opens. If a tile says 6, click it to see the six records, with edit buttons. A tile you cannot click has nothing behind it.

Empty is not zero. An empty rate means nobody has priced it yet. For a giveaway, set billing to comp instead of typing 0, so revenue reports can tell the two apart.

A spot's kind comes from what it holds. Upload audio and it is produced. Type copy with no upload and it is a live read. There is nothing to set.

Unplaced spots are owed back. They are not a glitch. Anything that would not fit is a makegood, listed with the reason.

Always verify import. Sending a log writes a file. It does not mean your automation read it. Verify import asks the automation and reports what it said.

When something goes wrong

Nothing here can take your station off the air. Cartwright never writes into your automation system's own database. It drops a file into a folder the automation watches, and the automation picks it up on its own schedule.

  • A log will not build or import: see When a log will not import.
  • The app says the server is unreachable: see Starting the server, and backups.

Questions nobody has answered yet

Settings lists the things your own paperwork never settled, like an ad load or a rate nobody wrote down. They are questions, not faults.

Answering one records what was decided, who decided it and when. The old answer is kept too.

If you need a value nobody has decided, ask for it. Do not pick something that merely sounds right.

Still stuck?

Email hello@cartwright.fm. One person reads it, and you will get a real answer rather than a ticket number.

What we can help with: exactly what Cartwright did, and what your automation system said back — we read its import log and put it in plain words.

What we cannot do is set up another company's software for you. If the fix is a setting inside your automation system, that is a question for its support desk, and we will tell you so rather than guess.
